Next Man Up

At the end of the baseball season, I heard multiple managers talk about the importance of having a team that has the capacity to step up when a key member of the organization gets hurt, moves on, or can't continue to serve at the same level of intensity that they have in the past. Having this become reality for an organization without a loss in productivity, energy, and momentum requires some preparation. Consider how you are preparing the next man up by: transferring knowledge, information and resources to others around you in a meaningful way, including people outside of their normal portfolio in meetings and conversations, supporting other's ideas to innovate and add energy to the organization, developing a deeper understanding of mission and common language, and working to deprivatize the the thoughts, workflow, and daily conversations of your role.
